Little monkeys at your house? Do they like to jump? Probably. This post has a free printable for 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.  It could be used along with the book Sock Monkeys:  Do the Monkey, Monkey! by William B. Winburn, and Harriet Ziefert.

Sock Monkeys: Do the Monkey, Monkey!, photoThe weather, even in the northernmost tip of Minnesota, is just too hot to smile, so they say. So, it is almost too hot to blog!  I was looking at children’s books and saw this fun book with photos of sock monkeys doing a version of the Hokey, Pokey,  Sock Monkeys:  Do the Monkey, Monkey!  I thought of using a hula-hoop and a water sprinkler, or even a small kiddie pool to let kids do a summer water version of this song, and cool down from all the heat.

We used finger puppets to dramatize the story. Such fun!

I like the photos of the sock monkeys in the book doing their own dance to the Hokey, Pokey. They stick their tails in and shake them all about, and they dance and shout.  Outside, this would be a nice way to let the children run off steam in a controlled manner.

I had monkeys on my mind from working with Tonya Dirksen from Strings, Keys, and Melodies on some resources to accompany her Finger Play Fun Day series on her blog. Her post today is: 5 Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, and she made a video using small finger puppets for her post.  I made two PDFs and a PowerPoint for her post and they are available there!  If you don’t know this rhyme, your students or children certainly do.  Each time the monkeys jump on the bed, mama calls the doctor and the doctor says, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”
