Puppy Puzzles Skip Counting by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 with two pages for each.

Who doesn’t love puppies? These puzzles are fun for children to put together as the picture is the “self-correcting” feature and a clever way to  reinforce skip-counting. Actually, these are the products in multiplication problems so are a prerequisite for learning facts. A puzzle may be placed in the math center but be careful to not put out more than two or the pieces will require sorting. First, select each page wanted for your students.  The entire PDF may not be required for a particular teaching situation. Then print the desired pages.

Cut each puzzle apart and place in the math center area. A tray will help contain the pieces. Demonstrate how to work on the puzzle. Some children may only see the image, but it is actually surprising how the numbers do help.

Laminating may not be needed in a small classroom setting. However, it may be done by spreading the puzzle pieces apart before running them through the laminator.

The engaging photos of puppies will help students focus on the task. This is a picture of one of the skip counting by 2s pages.

Can’t help but look and want to figure out this puzzle of counting by three.

Counting by fours has never been such fun. For any sensitive children who might worry about dogs that look sad, just say they are tired.

Shh! This one fell asleep while counting by 5s.

By the time children are counting by 6s, some may realize the puzzles are based on multiplication. See my post about how to demonstrate there are few actual difficult facts to memorize (up to the 10s).

Counting by 7s might become a little more difficult, and the image may be relied upon for some help.

Moving along to counting by 8s, it might be time for some children to begin to hear the rhymes that help them learn facts, such as 8 x 8 fell on the floor, it came back at 64.

The nines are fine! They are one of the first set of facts to learn as there is such a good trick to help memorize them.

Most of the children will know how to count by 1s, 5s, and 10s. The tens should be a piece of cake.
