Sofia Martinez
The Sofia Martinez book about her family includes a story of how she cleverly plans and surprises her family about picture day at school. It has three other stories as well, including one about a special pinata for her grandmother’s birthday. It is realistic fiction. Spanish words and culture are sprinkled throughout the story which I really like! The glossary was what caught my eye as it had many familiar Spanish words commonly heard, so I made a free printable for most of the words it contains.
The co-creators of Multicultural Children’s Book Day are Mia Wenjen from Pragmatic Mom and Valarie Budayr from Jump Into a Book/Audrey Press. You can find a bio for Mia and Valarie here. All Books are pre-screened and approved by the Junior Library Guild. The hashtag is #ReadYourWorld, and this event is also known as MCCBD. Read the full blog post at this link for book one.
