Henry and Mudge and the Forever Sea

Henry and Mudge and the Forever Sea by Cynthia Rylant, illustrations by Suçie Stevenson

Henry and Mudge books by Cynthia Rylant are easy readers.  Henry and Mudge and the Forever Sea is a wonderful remembrance story of a father and son and a long day at the ocean.  For anyone who enjoys the seaside or beach, this story will bring back warm memories.  The book has humor in it, too, with statements such as when Mudge (the dog) was wet he looked like a whale with legs.  They decorate their sandcastle with a red rubber lobster.  They eat snow-cones for dinner!  Children will enjoy the story and like the humor, which helps motivate them to read aloud. For guided reading purposes, this book has a J level.

Cynthia Rylant is the best writer!  She has written so many books for children and adults.  I have written about her in other posts about her books.
